DROID TURBO 2 & DROID MAXX 2

2015 Motorola DROID devices feature a refreshed digital brand language, offering colorful device wallpapers and an updated homescreen widget that coordinate with hardware selections.

Subtle delighters refresh a brand

DROID Turbo 2 and DROID Maxx 2 were the first DROID devices to leverage Motorola's Moto Maker service, offering consumers customization of device colors and materials. When creating a new set of wallpapers and refreshing the iconic circle "Command Center" widget for 2015, we decided to tap into this new customization experience rather than purely doing a look and feel update.

We drew inspiration from the DROID Color Material Finish (CMF) options and offered device wallpapers that coordinated with the physical accents, and brought a bright digital accent to the widget as well through a customizable battery ring. The final set of DROID media not only offered a fresh visual take on the brand qualities of DROID, but also reinforced new Moto Maker experience, bringing personalization from the physical product to the digital experience.

My role: UX Design Lead

As UX Design Lead for Carrier Branded Services at Motorola, my responsibility was to lead overall UX and digital design initiatives for Verizon DROID branded products. Day-to-day, I coordinated and drove the pace of design work, provided design direction, did detailed interaction design, and engaged internal Motorola stakeholders from product, account, marketing, and design to ensure a unified approach and buy-in for all designs presented to Verizon.
